“I came for the foam swords. I stayed for the man in the cape who made me beg.”
After catching his girlfriend cheating, 19-year-old college freshman Max agrees to join his roommate’s eccentric friend Jasper at a weekend LARP event. Max expects cringe and costumes. He doesn’t expect to be cast as “Max the Barbarian” - clad in nothing but a chest harness, Ugg boots, and tight white briefs that leave very little to the imagination.
With muscles on display and eyes following his every move, Max can’t help but notice that Jasper seems to be watching the closest. Especially when a solo side quest leaves Max “cursed” and needing some very specific, very physical intervention to break the spell. Jasper calls it roleplay. Max calls it confusing. And maybe kind of thrilling.
By the final night’s epic battle - complete with thrusting swords, grappling heroes, and very little personal space - Max will have to decide: is he still just playing along? Or is this the kind of fantasy he’s ready to make real?
